We're wanting to offer free shipping when spending above a specific amount, but only when the customer selects the basic shipping method (because premium delivery service should always cost more than standard).  I'm fairly sure that this configuration used to be possible in Smartstore v3.x, but since we have upgraded to v5.1 I can't see a way of doing this.

 

Am I missing something, or has this functionality been removed?

Use a cart rule with the condition "Subtotal amount of cart" for example. Then assign it to the basic shipping method.

An alternative way would be to use an assigned-to-shipping discount with an discount percentage of 100% and a cart rule.

On second thought, I don't think this will achieve what I need to do.  The customer should be allowed to switch to the premium shipping service if they want, but the free shipping will then no longer apply to them.  How can I do this?  Please could you also elaborate on your alternative way?

You can use rules to control whether and from when a shipping method is offered. However, it will probably not work if the selection of a different shipping method is to apply as a condition. The condition would never be fulfilled, or more precisely, only after reloading the shipping method selection page. If this is what you need, then I would look for a compromise and do it differently.

How would I do this differently?  Surely this is fairly common functionality - offering free shipping but the customer can still upgrade for a faster shipping service...?

I think I might have worded this badly.  I DO want to show both options at the same time, but during the checkout process it should only provide the shipping for free if they have selected the standard (default) shipping method.  If the customer selects the premium shipping method during checkout then they should not get this service for free.

And what's the problem? Two payment methods with fixed rate calculation. Standard shipping for an amount of 0, with a rule about which it is only offered from a certain subtotal. Premium shipping for an amount above 0, without a rule, is therefore always offered.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't see how this will change anything, as the "Free shipping over X" setting is turned on, which seems to override any rules.  Both shipping options must be presented to the user during checkout, but the free shipping will not be applied if the customer chooses the premium shipping method.

 

This is the scenario I am trying to explain:

 

- Free [STANDARD] shipping offered above £30 (for example), by configuring "Free shipping over X" setting.

- Customer adds £50 worth of products to basket, so they qualify for free shipping.

- Customer is presented with 2 shipping options during checkout - the standard method for free (due to "Free shipping over X" setting in administration portal), and the option to pay for fast delivery, for an extra £10.

- If the customer selects standard shipping, the order total is £50; if the customer selects premium then the order total is £60.

Yes - this is functioning as I intend.  How did you configure this in the back-end?  I can't log into your demo site using the usual demo/1234 credentials to see for myself...
