setup your product recurring cycle length to 6 and period to month
this should do what you need, the customer pays once at the start of each/the cycle of 6 months

Hi,
I would like to use the recurring payment to bills the customer for the whole period that she is to subscribed with me. For example, if she wants a 6-month subscription, I would bill her once for the value of 6 months. I have not figured it out how to do this. Can you help?

So, the customer will always pays the total amount and not every month, right?

The customer would pay the product price at the beginning of each cycle (in this case 6 months). For total cycles, you can specify how often the subscription is automatically renewed at the end of the cycle. The customer can then cancel the subscription manually, so it doesnt get renewed automatically.
