I'm generally not an idiot but when I got to the following link, i see the english community but all the controls of the forum are in German.  How can I get to an English version of the site?  Would be great to have a link on the page to jump over.

you can change the language on the bottom of the page. On the rigth of the RSS-Icon.

 

Smartstore.com moved to another server. Maybe you just caught the time, where it was offline for a second.
