Default guest currency different from primary/exchange currency

Due to a lot of our supplied items having pricing in USD, it makes most sense for us to set up our store using USD as the primary and exchange currency. However, because the store will be based in another country, I'd like that country's currency code to be the default selected currency when visiting the store as a guest (whatever it's changed to seems to be saved in cookies - so that is okay). Can you advise how this could be achieved?

Possibly this can be achieved with Configuration > Regional settings > Currencies > Domain endings.
